Here we are on the last stop on the trail… who would have thought?! If you’ve made your way out to Fredericksburg wine country, odds are, you’ve heard of Wilderness Run Vineyards. This winery in particular I will recommend above them all because of the family attached to it. This week… I will be talking about the place that has wine, beer and if you’re a cigar lover, the #1 place you’ll want to be.
This past weekend, I planned a trip out to the winery, not only to have a tasting, but to have a girls night with my best friend of 13 years, Marykatherine. It started off with bringing a hungry gal behind the bar an infamous McChicken followed by one too many glasses to kickstart the night, but who’s complaining?!
On their tasting menu, they have everything from Jefferson Vineyards, Chatham, Rockbridge, Ox Eye, along with 4 bottles of their own house-made wine. Thinking back to when they were turning their family barn into a Fredericksburg hot-spot really made the experience that much more serene.
Starting off with their first wine of the Wilderness Run Orchard peach, Victoria explained that it was made of 100% Niagara grape, 12.5% alcohol, and was her favorite by far. Working at my current job and their variety of dry wines, I think has ruined my taste buds for sweet wine but I would highly recommend for any sweet peach lovers!
Their next wine up on the menu was the farm’s Wilderness Run Tool Shed Red of 2015. With red wine being my new favorite, along with this being a blend making it 13.5%, was the number one on my list.
However, if you’re visiting this winery and have a taste for beer or cider, you’re in the right place! Not only do they house make their own wine, but they also have 1781 Brewing Company to satisfy all of the beer lovers. Freshly made with Appalachian wood, sealed with a concrete paste of oats and water, their beer selection is nothing but ordinary.

Heading outside the barn, there sits a brand new cigar lounge that is a man’s perfect getaway spot. Recently partnering with Olde Towne Tobacconist, pairing this with your favorite beer just marks another reason to head out to the farm! Located on an historic part of Fredericksburg, this is the perfect place to bring the entire family. With events like Stretch and Sip Yoga, endless food trucks and hometown bands, Wilderness Run has everything to make it a perfect stop on the trail.
Although this is the last stop on the wine trail, I hope anyone that has been following along continues to make their way around Virginia and experience everything that it has to offer. Virginia is the up and coming wine country of the US, and I am looking forward to seeing the future of it’s wine and new additions it continues to make every year. Thank you to everyone who has taken this ride down the infamous trail with me these past few months, and I hope I have inspired some to try a new wine or experience. Until next time…. Cheers!
