My Story
Welcome to my blog! My name is Allison Kenyon, and I am a fourth-year communication studies major at Longwood University…who loves to drink wine, go to wineries, and eat cheese. Exactly what brought us here. I first picked up my interest for the wine industry when I watched one of my second families’ winery be built and flourish before my eyes. This is what started my mind to the path of event planning. My goal after college is to intern at a winery and continue my passion for events. I would like to perhaps incorporate my PR background as well. In order to make that happen, I need to grow my knowledge in both aspects. This blog will be focused on doing so during my different stops along the infamous Virginia Wine Trail!
Originally from Madison County, Virginia, I have a strong love for and appreciate picturesque scenery when I see it. Adding a few years and my ID turning 21, the world of wineries opened up. This past summer I worked in the tasting room at Early Mountain Vineyards in my home town. This opened up my horizon learning more of the business side of wine and the back story in the bottle. In addition, getting to work with former chefs of the Inn at Little Washington and watch a menu come about with the wine in mind was a pleasure in itself. Working on the current goal of my Bachelor’s Degree, my Associate’s Degree is something that I finished up with in the last year. Living in Charlottesville during the last two years was a big part that opened my eyes for so many different opportunities and industries. In the future, I possibly see myself returning to Charlottesville to pursue a career.
The goal for this blog is to show followers different highlights or things to do at Virginia Wineries, all while taking an amusing spin on it being that I am a 22-year-old college student. I want to show activities and hidden gem locations from my point of view and buoyantly spike interests. Food will definitely be a topic that gets sprinkled in because I will never turn down a cheese board. Don’t think I won’t throw in a few perfect pairings to try on your next trip. I’ll be starting on the closest part of the Virginia Wine Trail at Thistle Gate Vineyard to ask about their recent harvesting season. From there I plan on making stops at places like Blenheim Vineyards, Pippin’ Hill, Jefferson, along with a few other town favorites.
